As a Writer, Do You Forget This?

Updated: Jun 24, 2023

No surprise, really.

As a writer, I am surrounded by writers.

No surprise, really.

That does mean that I forget the skill that is involved with being a writer.

Of those of us that start writing a book(s), a very low percentage (I won't get bogged down by the numbers - I am a writer, after all) actually finish.

That's a high percentage of opportunity being missed out on.

And I don't just mean money. Money, of course, is a factor, yes. A piece of creative writing can be a source of passive income, with the added bonus of an unlimited shelf-life.

You never know who's reading (or seen) your book. Readers of Prevailed Hope have often opened up to me about their mental health struggles in a way that makes me wonder if they would the same, if they hadn't read Prevailed Hope.

It's healthy to see that our words can inspire.

The way I look at is: approach writing a book with an open mind. We never know the journey will take us. We never know who we'll meet; the assumptions we'll smash.

If you have something to say, say it. Even if you think it's been said a million times before, it most probably hasn't. Especially not in the way that you'll tell it.

It can be a confidence boost. You’re a writer. Not just any writer, but a professional writer. Not to mention building on your confidence in future projects.

The definition of a 'professional writer' is debatable. But my thinking is that, if you are earning money from your writing, you're a 'professional'. Don't get too hung up on that, though. The personal success is what's important.

There are so many different directions in which your writing could take you. Not all of us are the most confident of beings, so writing is the way to truly express ourselves.

Last, but definitely not least, writing is a creative outlet. A bit of FUN!

Fun?

Yes, fun.

So, if you are thinking of picking up the pen, this is your reminder to start.
